The Whalehead Club and Currituck Heritage Park
In only a few minutes, guests can stroll along the Resort’s trails to visit the beautiful Currituck Heritage Park. Among the attractions within the Park is the Currituck Beach Lighthouse, built in 1876, the Outer Banks Center for Wildlife Education, and a Maritime Museum. The Park’s featured attraction and the gem of Corolla is the Whalehead Club Historic House Museum. Built in the 1920s as a sporting lodge retreat by wealthy Philadelphia industrialist, Edward C. Knight, the 21,000 square foot mansion included a swimming pool, basement and elevator, the first such amenities on the Outer Banks. With custom designed Art Nouveau décor, Tiffany lighting, and a Steinway grand piano built for Marie Knight, the home is presented in its original state as when the Knights would visit with a bevy of servants. While the Park is free, the Whalehead Club charges an admission, discounted for guests of the Inn. To go to the Whalehead Club website click here.
